RESTAURANT MENU GUIDE · SAUDI ARABIA
QR menu vs PDF menu: which is better for a restaurant?
A QR code can open either a static PDF or a live digital menu. The difference matters: one only displays a file, while the other can identify the table, show current items and connect the guest to the restaurant’s ordering workflow.
A PDF menu is suitable when the restaurant only needs a view-only copy of a rarely changing menu. A live QR menu is the stronger choice when the restaurant wants mobile-friendly browsing, Arabic-English switching, table identification, item availability, ordering or service requests.

The QR code is not the menu
The QR code is only the doorway. If it links to a PDF, the customer receives a document. If it links to Dineinto, the customer receives a mobile restaurant experience connected to the correct branch and table.
A document on a phone
- — Pinch and zoom
- — Static prices and availability
- — No table context
- — No ordering workflow
A live restaurant menu
- ✓ Designed for mobile
- ✓ Arabic and English
- ✓ Correct branch and table
- ✓ Orders and service requests
Side-by-side comparison
| Restaurant need | PDF menu | Live QR menu |
|---|---|---|
| Comfortable mobile browsing | Depends on the PDF layout and often requires zooming | ✓Responsive cards, categories and item pages |
| Arabic and English | Usually separate files or both languages crowded onto one page | ✓Customer switches language inside the menu |
| Price and availability updates | Edit and upload a new file | ✓Update the item once from the dashboard |
| Unique table identification | Not available unless separate links and manual logic are built | ✓A unique code connects every order to its table |
| Variants and add-ons | Shown as text only | ✓Customer selects configured sizes, options and add-ons |
| Dine-in orders | Not connected | ✓Orders reach the restaurant dashboard with table context |
| Service and bill requests | Not connected | ✓Can be enabled by the restaurant |
| Reservations | Usually a separate phone number or link | ✓Availability and booking can be managed in the same experience |
| Item availability | May remain visible until the PDF is replaced | ✓The restaurant controls what is currently available |
| Operational value | Digital display of a printed menu | ✓Menu, table and order workflow in one system |
When a PDF menu can be enough
- — A temporary event or short campaign
- — A very small menu that almost never changes
- — The restaurant only needs customers to view information
- — No table ordering, variants, service requests or live availability are required
LIVE QR
When a live QR menu is the better choice
- ✓ The restaurant updates prices, items or availability
- ✓ Guests need a complete Arabic and English experience
- ✓ The team needs to know which table placed the order
- ✓ Customers choose variants, add-ons or order notes
- ✓ The restaurant wants ordering, service requests or reservations
- ✓ Owners need a system that can grow across branches
FROM THE GUEST’S VIEW
The customer experience is the clearest difference
With a PDF, the customer scans, opens a document and then still needs a waiter or another system. With Dineinto, the same scan can open the correct table menu, let the guest customise an item and send the order with its table number.

- 1
Organise the source data
Separate categories, item names, descriptions, prices, calories, photos, variants and add-ons.
- 2
Add both languages
Give Arabic and English guests complete names and descriptions rather than mixing incomplete translations.
- 3
Create branches and tables
Connect every code to the correct restaurant location and table.
- 4
Test the full order cycle
Scan, browse, customise, order, receive and complete one test order before launch.
- 5
Keep the existing printed codes only if they point to the new URL
Otherwise replace the codes so customers reach the live menu rather than the old PDF.
FREE STARTER PLAN
A live QR menu does not have to increase the restaurant’s software cost
Dineinto Starter is free and includes the bilingual QR menu, unique table codes, dine-in ordering, menu and staff setup, core reservations and restaurant-collected payment. Pro is available when the restaurant needs advanced integrations or its own online payment gateway workflow.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is a QR menu the same as a PDF menu?
No. A QR code can link to a PDF, but it can also link to a responsive live menu. The destination determines the customer experience.
Do I need to reprint QR codes when a price changes?
Not with a live Dineinto menu. Update the item in the dashboard and keep the same table code.
Can a live QR menu work without online payment?
Yes. Starter restaurants can collect payment themselves by cash, card terminal or POS and mark the order paid.
Can customers use the menu without downloading an app?
Yes. Dineinto opens directly in the customer’s mobile browser.
